September Is Here!

Are you sipping your pumpkin spice latte yet? It is still scorching hot here in Texas, but i feel the fall weather creeping into the air. We are getting into a rhythm on my campus and wrapping up beginning of year testing. Phonics routines are just about in place and I wanted to share one of my favorite resources with you!

Phonics is the relationship between sounds and letters. One effective way to start each day in a first-grade classroom is with phonics bell ringers. These short, engaging activities not only set a positive tone for the day but also help students build strong phonics skills from the very beginning.

Why Phonics Matters

First graders are at a developmental stage where they are ready to grasp the connection between letters and sounds. Phonics instruction at this age sets the stage for reading and writing success in the years to come. It's essential to provide clear and explicit instruction when it comes to phonics.

The Power of Bell Ringers

Phonics bell ringers are short activities that can be completed in just a few minutes at the beginning of the school day. These activities boost engagement in your classroom. They also provide ongoing data for your students growth. They also provide opportunities to review previous skills, while also practicing new skills.

First Grade Phonics Bell Ringers

I created an amazing set of bell ringers for your first grade classroom. There is a bell ringer for every single day of the school year in the complete bundle here! Every day students spend 5 to 10 minutes completing these bell ringers. They are a great way to set up a routine in your classroom that fosters growth. Students practice skills like letter sounds, short vowels, consonant blends, digraphs, vowel teams, diphthongs, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, suffixes, and sight words!

In the September Phonics Bell Ringers students practice short vowels A, E, & I, ABC order, beginning letter sounds and sight words. This is a great review for most first graders but can also be new material as well. You can grab the entire resource here, or check out two weeks free below!

Phonics bell ringers are more than just a way to start the day; they are a valuable tool for building upon phonics skills needed for reading and writing success. You can create an effective system in your classroom with these sweet and simple 1st Grade Phonics Bell Ringers!
